Every September since 1987, the heart of Itawamba County lights up with one of the county’s best events, Mantachie Fest. Held in Mantachie Town Park, this high-energy celebration brings together the best of local music, mouthwatering food, family fun and hometown pride. If you’re craving a real-deal Mississippi experience, this is your perfect weekend escape. The festival is held annually on the third weekend in September, and admission is always free!
Before the days of this awesome festival, Mantachie, Mississippi was a Chickasaw Indian settlement named for Chief Man-ta-chee. In the 1800s, it was a key stop for trade and travel. Today, Mantachie is a quiet, close-knit town with strong roots, proud traditions and a name that honors its Native American legacy. Located 15 minutes from Tupelo, the town constantly collaborates with various local clubs, charities and churches, to provide a blueprint for Mantachie’s identity.
With such an exceptional event occurring every year, the Mantachie Fest needs a dedicated team of volunteers who work tirelessly to keep each festival vibrant and enjoyable. And they up the ante every single year.
Mantachie Fest brings the heart of small-town Mississippi to life with two days of music, food, fun and community spirit. The live music lineup offers something for everyone, from authentic bluegrass to soulful gospel, with local performers and regional favorites keeping the energy high from morning to night. Food is always front and center, too. Expect Mississippi farm raised catfish, barbecue, funnel cakes, and plenty more served up by food trucks and hometown cooks delivering Southern flavor in every bite.
Families will find plenty to do, with inflatable bounce zones, games, pony rides for the kids, and rows of handmade crafts and unique vendors for the grown-ups to enjoy. Friendly competitions add to the excitement, including baking contests, a kids’ rodeo, and hourly cash prize drawings.
More than just an event, Mantachie Fest is a celebration of its people and the surrounding Itawamba County. It’s powered by volunteers and local businesses who come together to welcome guests with open arms. And when the sun sets on Saturday, everyone gathers for the grand finale – a fireworks show at 9 p.m. that lights up the sky and ends the day on a high note.
Mantachie Fest is pure fun. It’s the kind of event where you and your family leave full — of food, music, laughter, and maybe even a little sunshine on your shoulders. Whether you’re coming back or discovering Mantachie for the first time, you’re in for an unforgettable weekend.
